Who made Casa Nereta

In 1994 — Romy (Painter) and her late husband Joan, (a sculptor) and loved man in Cadaqués, also the son of the painter Joan Ponç.

Despite from both being artists themselves thought of creating a different concept of hotel, and decided to build it with the most amazing process. Romy who had before remodeled a few houses as an architect, started to create what Casa Nereta is today.

Following the rules of Rudolf Steiner, another reason for… so many round corners in the house and everything having a harmonious shape,

You can appreciate Romy’s design details in every corner like the wall lamps in the corridors, pillars and vaults in the main salon and the solid melis pine wood structures throughout the hotel, like the desks in the rooms.

There are never ending details, for example, the stones in the stairs come from Italy as well as the Gaudínesque door knobs.

Another secret for the well-being inside the house are the stones they placed under the floors with calming properties to balance the vibrating pizarra stone so present in Cadaqués so it might be the key to a restful night sleep.

In the penthouse all the wooden floors have been build over cork and you can see even more the wooden details, marble bathrooms, not to mention the spherical panoramic terrace where you can see all the village.

In 2016 — Romy & her son James (Co-Founder, Concept creator and Manager) decided to open this beautiful hotel. Andrea Conti & Isa Cert from the Barcelona based interior design studio Conti, Cert connected perfectly with the energy of the house, bringing to life an essential part of the project that it is today…

Selecting iconic lamps from SANTA&COLE that you’ll find in every room and space. Marset, Nobushi… In-house designed furniture, added pieces from Marc Morro from AOO in common areas and rooms. Later, James being an enthusiast of design himself collaborated with FRAMA to unify all the spaces.

Making the common areas be so beautifully put together that we have been featured in AD, Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Monocle, Condé Nast Traveller, CC Magazine, Milk Decoration Magazine, Santa & Cole Projects and many blogs...

Alejandra Coll did the landscaping in 2016 bringing her special touch, we try to maintain it every year with a lot of green in the gardens and terraces.

Before Casa Nereta

This was the home of painter Joan Ponç (1927–1984), a surrealist artist and member of the avant-garde movement Dau al Set. He purchased the house in the late 1950s with his first wife, Roser, and their son, Joan, transforming it into his private home-studio. Here, he created some of his most acclaimed works using the distinctive technique for which he is renowned. His art has been exhibited in leading museums and galleries across New York, Barcelona, Madrid, São Paulo, Paris, Frankfurt, and many others over the years.

In an effort to revive his image and extraordinary trajectory, his grandson James and Romy are founding the Joan Ponç Foundation (2025–2026). Its mission is to preserve and promote the legacy he left behind—through collaborations, publications, and exhibitions in prominent museums—ensuring that younger generations can appreciate and learn from this irreplaceable artist and his remarkable body of work.
